Following the Fujifilm S3 Pro, which was popular among wedding photographers for its higher-than-usual dynamic range, the Fujifilm S5 Pro hit the shelves in 2007. Modelling the camera body after the Nikon D200, Fujifilm has replaced the plastic body of the S3 with a magnesium alloy body in the S5.

They have, however, kept the proprietary Super CCD sensor which uses 2 input cells per pixel to offer a broader dynamic range that traditionally captured by digital SLR cameras. The S5 also introduces film simulation modes, allowing the user to select a "film" type, including Fujichrome.
